I did one after getting three speeding tickets in three years. I was, by any quantitative measure, the best driver there. The instructor started by asking us all how much we paid for insurance. When I said less than three grand a year, he was genuinely surprised. Indeed, most people there spent between six and fifteen grand a year for insurance...there was one girl there who had totalled more cars than she had years of driving experience.

Yup. I'm going to sit in the garage with my laptop, a cup of coffee and a couple of cigars. Gotta make this as pleasant as possible.

They should make people who go under the speed limit in the left lane take an offensive driving course

There was a period in my life where I took defensive driving at least once a year, every year. I think it lasted over 10 years.
Did you know that judges can send you to defensive driving even if you already had it in the last 12 months? Go to court and ask.
As I got older, I realized that there’s a reason that insurance rates are lower for guys who are married. I’m sure there’s a strong correlation between marital status and frequency of infractions. There is in my case, at least.

What does seatbelt usage have to do with defensive driving? Is it more of a ‘safe vehicle operating’ course or are you going to be spending time being reeducated about following distances and predictive behavior than anything relating to your infraction?

So far, it's all about TX seat belt laws and who must wear them. Interesting exceptions, though.

TIL: more women than men wear seat belts, pickup drivers are Jess likely to wear seat belts.

The first part of the course was all about seat belts and statistics on their use. The majority now is just general safety stuff.
